Training the Trainer

So I have spent this week taking a class from NetCom Learning on Microsoft SQL 2012. The class is 10775A Administrating Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases. This is my second time taking this class and I have to say that it is absolutely terrible. I’m not sure about anyone else but when I take a class I expect the instructor to be professional and follow the outline of the book. I understand you have only 5 days to teach a room full of students about a very expansive topic, but Microsoft has managed to condense the material into 20 modules. The instructor we have no doesn’t follow the labs and instead often times creates his own scenarios to explain a topic to us. The problem is that he doesn’t fully understand them and so we have to take time out of learning while he figures out what it is that he needs to do in order to make the example work.

I have found that during the class he has given us some terrible advice with regards to backups and restores. I mean if you tried this stuff in a production environment you would most likely be updating your resume in a very quick fashion. Perhaps I’ve gotten spoiled by watching the training videos from the folks at Brent Ozar Unlimited.  So with all of that being said once I complete my certifications for this class I do believe I am going to take a stab at becoming a Microsoft Certified Trainer and see if I have what it takes to become a trainer.  I’ll put myself  in his shoes and see if I am any better.  What is the worst that can happen?

If you have any training horror stories please leave me a comment telling me about them.
